POST (Construction)

  1. A long, sturdy piece of timber or metal set upright in the ground and used to support something. (See COLUMN CAP).
  2. A vertical framing member usually designed to carry a beam. Often a 4″ x 4″, a 6″ x 6″, or a metal pipe with a flat plate on top and bottom.

The post was made of 4 x 4 wood.
