At various times the inch has also been defined as the combined lengths of 12 poppyseeds. Since 1959 the inch has been defined officially as 2.54 cm. There are 12 inches in a foot. In building we use inches and feet for all of our measure measurements. An inch is divided in half = 1/2″ and in half again = 1/4″ , and so on. See the scale below.
