CEMENT

Spanish: CEMENTO

  1. Cement is a binder, a substance used for construction that sets, hardens, and adheres to other materials to bind them together. Cement is seldom used on its own, but rather to bind sand and gravel together. Cement mixed with fine aggregate produces mortar for masonry, or with sand and gravel, produces concrete.
  2. The gray powder that is the “glue” in concrete. Portland cement. Also, any adhesive.
  3. A fine powder, composed of a mixture of clay and limestone, that hardens when mixed with water, and is used to make mortar and concrete. Note: Cement is not the same as concrete, but is the bonding ingredient of it.
  4. Any of various substances used as adhesives for bonding to a hard material.
  5. The powder you add to sand and gravel and gets hard when you add water.

EXAMPLE:

The cement felt like a very soft powder in my hands.
