BEDDING SAND

  1. A type of construction sand used in paver installations that goes last before the pavers are laid. Bedding sand keeps the paving stones interlocked.
  2. The layer of coarse, clean, sharp and angular sand that is screeded to a uniform depth of 1 to 1 1/2 inches. The sand can be natural or manufactured.
  3. The sand the pavers are laid down on.  The sand must be jagged and sharp so that it can hold the pavers, not round and smooth.  This sand comes in our trucks so it may be damp.
  4. A course sharp angled sand installed approximately 1” thick.   Installed on top of a base and pavers are laid on top of it.

EXAMPLE:

The paver company I hired made sure the bedding sand was properly placed and compacted between the pavers so the pavers interlocked.
