- A vibratory plate-type compactor used to consolidate loose soils and gravels in the creation of firm and stable surfaces. This type of compactor is preferred in homeowner installations due to their respective ease of use and compact size. Plate compactors are also used to set the paving stones in the sand bed and to settle the joint sand.
