JOIST

A joist is a length of timber or steel (2 X 8’s, 10’s, or 12’s) supporting part of the structure of a building, typically arranged in a parallel series to support a floor or ceiling. They are supported in turn by larger beams, girders, or bearing walls.

EXAMPLE:

The treehouse I built used wood joists to support the floor and ceiling.
