FOOTER, FOOTING

  1. The supporting base of a structure, like a wall or a column.
  2. Continuous 8″ or 10″ thick concrete pad installed before and supports the foundation wall or monopost
  3. That portion of the foundation of a structure that spreads and transmits the load directly to the soil.  See picture under FOUNDATION.

EXAMPLE:

A mason who wants to build a wall must know how to build a footing.
