CONTROL JOINT

A control joint is used to permit the expansion or contraction of concrete resulting from temperature changes.  A control joint consists of straight grooves made on concrete surfaces to “control” where the concrete should crack.  The grooves are usually made with a tool called a trowel.  *See also Expansion Joint.
