  1. A material made from stone and gravel of various sizes that is used as a foundation for pavers to be installed on top of.
  2. The lowest part or bottom; the part which supports something or on which something stands.   Stone gravel which has been crushed to various sizes – large, medium, small and fines, and is then mixed together.  This mix is then inspected and certified that the proportions fit together correctly. 
  3. The stone and gravel of various sizes that is used for building roads and driveways – ¾” to ½” gravel. Composed of various sizes of gravel in the correct quantities we call this Class 2 road base.

EXAMPLE:

Base is required when installing pavers in order to enhance the pavers’ structural durability and be able to stand heavy weight on top.
