Rock (stone) veneer is a thin layer of any stone used as decorative facing material that is not meant to be load bearing. Stone cladding is a stone veneer, or simulated stone, applied to a wall or the face of a BBQ island or other masonry structures.
It can come in sheets for example, 12″ by 16″, where the pieces are pre-glued to a backing. Then one sheet can be installed at a time which is much faster than individual pieces.
The picture below shows individual rock pieces being installed one at a time. The labor time is about 3 times longer for this process.
