The permit process starts with submitting the construction drawings for approval. When approved each city requires an inspected to visit the job site to verify that the contractor built the element as shown on the approved plans. There are usually several inspections required, for example on a block wall, the first inspection is the steel placement, the second is the block placement and the third is the filling of the wall with concrete, called grout.
